OUR FATHERS PART 1

Our Fathers

From "Daughter" by John Mayer

Fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers, be good to your daughters too

What I'm writing about will not be a new thought.  It will not be rocket science.

FATHERS ARE IMPORTANT.

It is no coincidence that God is referred to as our Father.  Because God's thoughts are so much higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9), he often uses natural things to help us understand spiritual things.  Remember the parables spoken by Jesus.  The structure of the tabernacle and the sacrifices for sin.
And the family.

A mother's bond with a child begins before birth in a way that fathers can not experience. Proximity and pain create a nearly unbreakable bond.  Consequently, a father has to play catch up.  And the bond tends to be less so.  Let me qualify that by stating this has been my experience and observation.

I believe that the attributes of our fathers' are those we later project onto God.

The ideal father loves unconditionally.  Do you feel unloved by your father? God? Do you feel that you have to earn your father's love? God's?  Read about the love of the prodigal son's father (Luke 15:11-32).

The ideal father provides. Do you feel comfortable asking your father to meet your needs?  Do you have trouble praying to God?  Luke 11:11-13 reads " 11 If a son asks for bread[d] from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

The ideal father protects. Did your father make you feel safe? Do you feel like God is interested in you personally?
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper. Isaiah 54:17

Be Blessed and stay tuned for Part 2 begining with discipline.
